Our cover: Cook County State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx
When our editorial team considered our publishing position as a Guide to the Good Life on Chicago’s south side, we unanimously agreed that without attention to the social justice and economic equity issues ad-dressed that our families and communities would forever languish at the bottom. Considering this, The Guide to the Good Life for us must include the celebration of our accomplishments, and our acknowledgement of the most courageous among us.
With the former in mind we selected Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. She is as bold as she is beautiful, tackling the harshest injustices the city has faced and standing up to power in an attempt to level the playing field. We all agreed that without laser focus on the structural barriers to success, which particularly are devastating for our husbands, sons and other males, we as women cannot enjoy the good life while they are at risk.
Our designer, Pam Rice, has done a wonderful job of capturing what may be the most interesting young woman of our times. We are sure you will appreciate the courage and challenge to be who Kim Foxx is today and we hope you enjoy our acknowledgment of her journey to date.
Special Note: While the South Side Drive is published by Real Men Charities, Inc. we are not able to endorse a candidate. However, we urge you to vote on March 17th. Consider that voting a most important, basic act. It must be automatic and non-negotiable. You may not appreciate the outcomes but non-participation is not an option. For those voting we ask that you consider not debating this issue with those who refuse to vote. Don’t waste your breath, we need to keep the Good Life path open for possibility.
