The Return of Summer After 14 long months of quaran-tine, social distancing and wearing a mask everywhere the time is finally upon us when we get to go outside less re-stricted again. The public is opening up and Chicagoians are ready to get out. With COVID-19 rates around the country going down and businesses opening back up, it’s starting to look like life is going back to normal. That nor-malcy includes the return of summer after losing our last one to quarantine going back as far as March 2020 all the way to June 2021. Now we can go all outside and enjoy the world for July and August. Though we must still consider what we lost over the past year. Loved ones were lost, busi-nesses went under and society had to reinvent itself to sus-tain productivity. Now that we are back out and in person we can get off zoom and get outside.
With Chicago opening back up we’ve seen the return of the large scale events and festivals. From Chicago Sym-phony Orchestra concerts, Arts Festival, Chicago Theater premieres, The South Side Jazz coalition, numerous Mu-seum reopenings and Fairs, locations of the Hyde Park Art Center, the Art Institute of Chicago and so much more. Events available for people of all ages and backgrounds, the experiences we have been missing out on will be com-ing back in a big way. More new returning fairs and the usual recurring events are still upcoming. Windy City Smoke out, new additions to the Chicago Auto Show, Chi-natown Summer fair, and the Hyde Park Jazz Festival this fall. Events like Lollapalooza and other concerts and music festivals have returned as well. The youth are out and about which, after this past July 4th and the week of constant fireworks that could be heard across the sky, this city is excited and already a little weary.

For our more seasoned citizens there are also events designed with a little less activity that gives everyone a chance to get some fresh air with company. As previously mentioned Numerous Jazz Festivals will be upcoming , as well as orchestra symphony, and theatres will be reopening for families to return to the movies with the kids. Supper clubs, movie-nights, gardening, the beach and other commodities are all available and as active as before the pandemic. It’s almost like we are going back to normal, a possibility many of us questioned would ever be possible again. The light at the end of the tunnel was much further than first appeared, but in the end closer than expected. However, the newest data and reports about the Delta strain causes serious concern that although we might be over Covid, it July not be quite done with us yet.
