They say when a white person catches a cold, a Black person catches pneumonia. For African Americans receiving the worst of whatever goes wrong extends beyond our medical woes. That’s why the recent inflationary occurrences impacted Black businesses and nonprofits in such huge and meaningful ways.
At times like this, it’s great to know there’s someone in the larger community who cares. So when many in the South Shore business community began to experience the worst of times, Allstate reached out to give them a hand by partnering with the South Shore Development Corporation to create the Allstate Main Street Grant, to award sixteen small businesses and/or nonprofits from $5,000 to $25,000 in capacity building grants.
The sixteen recipients are: Zion Wellness Center, The Enhancement Nail Spa, Surf’s Up Restaurant, Majani Food Emporium, BWF Consultants, Yogi Studio, Give Me Some Sugah Bakery, M. Sculpt LLC DBA Fashion Mod, Studio 2226, The Bike Clinic, The Quarry, Greater Baking, Jordan’s Beauty Supply, 4 U Hair Salon, Almyghty and Chef Sara’s Café. Each month we will highlight one of the recipients.
Our first recipient is Zion Wellness Center. Ahavva Bey and her husband operate the Zion Wellness Center and Sen Sei’s Boba Tea Bar like they operate their lives side by side. They are a Holistic Wellness Center that provide help to people that are in need of Holistic Care by using Herbal Remedies, Food Regimen’s, Reiki, Sound Healing, Massage and Esthetician Services to bring healthiness to people’s body, mind, and spirit. They also have a part of a business that is called The Holistic Womb, (www.TheHolisticWomb.com) where they provide care for women that are dealing with vaginal issues and emotional trauma. The retail side of their store for all Natural Body Care Products, Herbal Tea Blends, Spiritual Products Crystals and Crystal Jewelry. Zion Wellness Center is located at 7209 South Exchange and right next door is another part of the his and her wholistic business.
Sen Sei’s Tea Bar, at 7207 South Exchange Avenue, is where the art of brewing your own tea is elevated to a whole new level. Here, they provide a serene and welcoming environment for tea enthusiasts looking to enhance their knowledge and experience in the world of tea.
They complement their tea sessions with a delightful selection of light pastries. It’s the perfect setting to relax, unwind, and indulge in a moment of personal indulgence. It’s an oasis of tranquility where you can engage in productive discussions or find solace after a long day, all while enjoying a cup of freshly brewed tea.”
