Publisher’s Message by Yvette J. Moyo
This A Journey: A Guide to the Good Life! Welcome to the inaugural monthly issue of Th e South Side Drive Magazine. As the publisher, I am excited to share the extension of my last five years of monthly publishing in Chicago. The South Side Drive Magazine provides a wonderful opportunity to share Good News and inspire a good life for Chicago residents, particularly in formerly underserved and disenfranchised communities.
Today, Real Men Charities, Inc. brings you The South Side Drive Magazine. The genesis of Real Men Charities, is Real Men Cook, the annual Father’s Day celebration that became a tradition. Th at was 30 years ago. In 2001 the Articles of Incorporation for the non-profit, Real Men Charities, Inc., were created. Th e articles declare our engagement in art, education, literacy, and publishing and the celebration of our legacy, and our work would help eliminate juvenile delinquency and societal and mental health challenges. The cover represents the energy and talent of the next generation. Every issue will celebrate the past and be an inspiration for the future. Our young cover photographer, Daveed Holmes, and the photo subjects reflect that energy.
We aim to inject joy, creativity, and enthusiasm into your spirit, and to fortify your soul. We pray that many readers will experience, (some for the first time) enthusiasm for our City and our Mayor Lori Lightfoot. We had that enthusiasm and excitement with Mayor Harold Washington. Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Invest South/West initiative has that potential. Thus, you will find in this issue an exclusive interview with, Maurice Cox, the mayor’s Commissioner of Planning and Economic Development.
Other articles demonstrate our passion for our history and culture and share healing messages. In the back pages, you encourage you to Invest/Southwest by personally patronizing our Black-owned restaurants, not a complete list, ours is an eff ort to be an economic catalyst for south-side businesses and to assist you inactive participation in fortifying our communities.
To join us as we celebrate for the launch The Year of Chicago Music! The Quarry Event Center, 2423 East 75th Street, in South Shore Chicago, is the hub of our operation!
