Kenwood Academy students, sisters Kayla and Karmen Hodge are foodies. A few years ago they saw a list of Black-owned eateries, by Toure Muhammad, within an August 2015 issue of the South Shore Current magazine. For the South Side Drive magazine, because of delicious memories of exploring quite a few of these, they worked to provide you with the following. It is not to be a complete list, but an interesting one. Most are small, some take-out only, and all deserve a visit, a call. Many will accept text orders or have some form of delivery.
We suggest that beginning Black History Month you consider spending with a Black-owned establishment. If you don’t eat out perhaps you can purchase something to be delivered. Surely, there’s a creative way you can do what Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot suggests, “Invest South West”. And please, tell the manager or owner who sent you, The South Side Drive Magazine.

Feel free to call a friend near one or more of these establishments and encourage them to patronize.
